Subject: Fundamental Tax Reform

Comment: Thank you for the wake-up call. We appreciate being relieved of any mistaken illusion that “fundamental tax reform” will come from within the 495 Beltway. You have eliminated the tax reform panel as political cover. We now understand that the responsibility for implementing the FairTax Act lies with the voters.

This has been a lesson in real-world politics. We now know that even an independent, highly esteemed, experienced and well respected group such as yours simply cannot be effective in Washington. The K Street lobbyists hold sway over everything that happens there. The only recourse voters have is to become the most powerful lobby in town. Fairtaxers are getting about that now, in person, by phone and e-mail, organizing that lobby…and it’s working.

Politicians can no longer hide behind the curtains with the Great Oz of the Tax Reform Panel. That Oz has been outed just like the one in the film. Politicians hiding behind the tax reform panel must now accept personal responsibility for not supporting H.R. 25, the FairTax Act. That is the only viable proposal on the table and “fundamental tax reform” has become an urgent matter.

Passing H.R. 25 will provide fair, broad-based progressive taxation, dismantle the tax code, accelerate the economy, fund Social Security and Medicare, increase employment, untax the poor, bring production and jobs home, eliminate IRS abuses, reverse our balance of payments, reduce the IRS to auditing collections of the Fair Tax by the States, etc..

Please accept our condolences for the damage to your personal and professional reputations that submittal of your report will cause. That official report, as it stands, will invite howls of protest and hoots of derision from coast to coast. By copy of this note, we invite the President to dismiss the panel, so the country can proceed with “fundamental tax reform.” Yours truly,
