Subject: A National Sales Tax

Comment: I urge this panel to strongly consider a National Sales Tax similar to that being proposed in bills HR25/S25 (The Fair Tax Legislative Package).

I believe this method of collecting federal revenues to be far superior to our current income-based quagmire. Clearly, abolishing the internal revenue code and setting up a national sales tax is a major paradigm shift However, a national sales tax is progressive, it's understandable, it's visible, and it's straight forward. I also believe it to be vital to the long-term fiscal health of our nation.

I've spent a lot of time around the IRC (mainly dealing w/retirement plan compliance issues) and the existing tax code must GO!!! This year, I completed a federal tax return for my household as well as two returns for my mother--twenty-eight (28) total hours completing paperwork. Because of a 529 Plan contribution, my mother’s Gift Tax return alone took more than eight hours--that's insanity!!!!

Please consider the National Sales Tax or FairTax. It is the ONLY methodology consistent with the values, the ideals, and those “certain unalienable rights” upon which our great nation was founded. We are today's stewards for the generations of tomorrow. We must take bold steps to ensure that those generations have financial freedom.

Sincerely,
Joseph S. Bryant
