Subject: adoption of FairTax

Comment: Members of the Panel:
Here's a very brief argument, in addition to all those you've already heard, for the FairTax: government credibility
The Federal Government does, after all, need some revenue. Maybe not as much as it now demands and spends, but some, to perform its original (Constitutional) duties. It gets that meny through a system described by the IRS as "voluntary self-reporting" by taxpayers.
Many, more each year, are fed up, have gone underground, aren't reporting. The system may not quite yet be on the verge of collapse but each additional year of struggling to understand the new rules makes us less sympathetic to government, more sympathetic to the evaders, more eager for a new system in which we can have some confidence.
I'd argue that the government might best adopt a national sales tax before it's humiliated by an outright income tax rebellion.
