Subject: Cutting tax credits and deductions will hurt the middle class Comment: Filing taxes can be somewhat confusing, but cutting various tax credits and deductions will only hurt the middle class. As an educated woman with a master's degree, my husband and I (with a typical middle-class income in metro DC) are trying to buy a home and want to start a family in a couple of years. We need these tax deductions and credits (home interest deduction and child tax credit) to help stay afloat. The government already has enough money and just needs to learn to budget better instead of penalizing the middle class. I am just one of millions throughout our nation who would suffer if this panel eliminates these kinds of deductions and credits. If tax credits and deductions are erased, people like me will just have to tighten our wallets even more. Forget buying a house, starting a family, taking vacations, shopping, going out to restaurants, adding money to the economy. What a greedy government! |
