The President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform

Dear Panel,

Clearly, tax “reform” is a waste of time as the “simplification” acts of the past have proven. What is needed is a new tax system that cannot be tinkered with by special interest groups. The best plan so far is being proposed under HB25 and SB25, which is a national sales tax, and is also known as the FairTax.

It will take a lot of courage for our lawmakers to do what is right, rather than what is “politically correct”. The current tax code is such a burden on our society that it is nearly inconceivable that there is anyone wanting to support it. Once you study the facts about the FairTax, you will realize it offers the best opportunity for not only simplifying our taxation system, but also helping to solve the Social Security funding problem.

My only fear about the FairTax, or any other solution, is that special interest groups will immediately go to work to make it just as complicated as the current system is. If at all possible, any solution will need to have safeguards built in to prevent such tinkering.

Please look at HB25 and SB25 as the vehicles to accomplish real change that will greatly simplify the lives of Americans while eliminating nearly all of the problems with the current system.

Thank you for your consideration,

David Patterson
