Subject: Supporting the Fairtax

Comment: Dear Tax Reform Panel,

Because this panel has already made clear the failure of the current tax system, I will not waste any time bemoaning the current systems many evils. Instead, I would just like to tell you why I think that the Fairtax (HR 25) should be recommended strongly to the President. First of all, the Fairtax is the simplest and easiest to understand of all the current reform proposals. Secondly, it will drastically spur economic growth. Just look at the many studies on the Fairtax, even the most pessimistic of them show solid growth. Mr. Greenspan also noted to your panel that a consumption tax would be excellent from an economic growth perspective. Thirdly, it is the only flat-rate tax that is also progressive. In fact, because of the "pre-bate," it may end up being more of a boon for the poor than for the middle class or the wealthy. Finally, it gets rid of the IRS. The IRS has, in many cases, become abusive and you will not find anyone who will be saddened by this loss. I could continue on but I am sure you will have plenty of material to find out for yourselves the many advantages of the Fairtax. Thank you for taking on this monumentous task. Let's turn April 15th into just another spring day.
