Comment: I support Rep. John Linder ( R-Ga.) proposed national sales tax, instead of income tax, for many reasons. 1) Why shoud a hard working person that say makes 100k a year, but manages the money so that he could save say 50k a year towards retirement or anything else, be penalized for knowing how to save his money by living with less, and have to pay up front before they spend it. 2) Lets get to the street, OK, how many people do you know that make a great amount of income under the table. I used to have a roomate 12 yrs. ago that was a personal trainer, she made over 150k Cash ea. year, claimed she made 12k, so that's what she payed in income tax, now what about all the people in the US that work say, waiting tables, bussers, bar tenders, strippers, bellman, pimps, hookers, anyone that uses tips as a large part of income, and the list goes on, drug dealers, gamblers etc.... well your not taxing them, but all those people manage to drive nice cars, have nice closthes, own nice homes etc.. so they would pay much more into the system if they were paying a higher sales tax on the money that they spend. 3) Only thing I would suggest is not applying it to food, and say electricity, and gas, the basics of life support, keep that tax the same just raise it on all other stuff, restaurants, movies, goods that you purchase, cars, etc.... I just think overall it would let people save money and still keep the US economy going good as people could invest in homes, and education with the extra, the average person is struggling so hard and taxing on what you make doesn't make sense... thanx..
