Subject: Flat Tax

Comment: I learned of your site and activity from Senator John Cornyn's office, and I am pleased to see the effort you are undertaking to reform our tax code. Through seeing an interview recently with Steve Forbes, I was reminded of a tax system that I have long favored, namely a flat income tax. As Mr. Forbes propounds, a flat tax would virtually eliminate all the current tax collection bureaucracy because of its simplicity (as he puts it, one could file their income tax on a postcard). Furthermore, it would also eliminate the billions of dollars (according to your own website) spent each year on professional tax preparation, thus putting more money in the hands of taxpayers and government. A flat tax, with generous personal exemptions, would also be a fair tax in that everyone would pay the same rate - no exceptions. A flat tax would stimulate the economy in several ways - more discretionary spending for taxpayers, increased savings and investment, business growth and development, and increased government revenue. It seems to be a win-win scenario all the way around. Other countries that have implemented a flat tax - notably Ireland - have already reaped significant economic benefits.

I urge you strongly to consider a flat tax as THE solution for our byzantine tax code. Thank you for your attention and action on this important measure.
