Subject: The Fair Tax will fix many woes

Comment: I ask the panel to endorse the Fairtax as outlined at fairtax.org. It is a national consumption tax...you spend more money, you pay more tax. How could it be any more simple than that?

Minimum wage-a minimum wage increase was recently defeated in Congress. The Fairtax would allow you keep your entire check, eliminating all federal withholding. That would be like a 25% increase in wage.

One complaint we hear is how American jobs are going overseas. The Fairtax would eliminate the imbedded taxes that make up 20-30% of the cost of producing anything in this country. It would make American products competitive in the world (again) and better still, it would put imported goods on a level playing field with domestic goods, something that certainly does not exist with our current opressive tax system.

The Economy- The Fairtax would actually encourage foreign investment in America, which would create jobs and make our economy boom in a manner we have never before witnessed.

Social Security-The President, congress, and political parties are currently involved in a battle over what to do with Social Security. Ugly things are being said and nothing is getting fixed. The Fairtax would make any social security reform mute and unnecessary. Currently the SS system relies on payroll taxes to fund the system, and we know when the boomers retire, less will be coming in and the system will go broke. If social security were instead funded by the Fairtax, there would be no lack of funds, because even retired people buy things, and would therefore be paying tax.

No one could evade taxes, not even illegal aliens. If you are buying, you are paying taxes.

No April 15 deadline or anxiety. No IRS. If you are religious, you could do as commanded and give the FIRST 10% to your church, rather than trying to tithe after the government has taken the first 25 to 28% of what you have earned.

These items are but a few of the good things that come from the Fairtax as it exists. My biggest fear is that Congress will get hold of it and mutate it into something that in no way resembles the plan as it exists now. I challenge anyone to point out anything unfair about this tax plan. Check it out at fairtax.org, be sure to download the 40 page brocure. It is fascinating and exciting to think that this could make it.
