Subject: Improving the Tax System

Comment: It seems clear to me that Congress will never give up its control of the tax code so they can continue to give perks to their constituants and supporters. The only solution it seems to me is to offer tax payers the choice of the current tax code or an alternative simplified tax code The latter could have 2 or 3 tax brackets and no deductions except for mortgage interest, charity deductions, and dependants. Long term capital gains should be tax free. Taxpayers can then calculate their taxes using both codes and choose the best for submitting to the IRS. I suspect that even if the simple code results in a slightly higher tax bill, they will select it because they will save the cost of using a tax preparer that charges several hundred dollars. Thanks.
