Subject: tax reform

Comment: I want the income tax eliminated, whether flat or otherwise. As to the difference between VAT and end-user consumption tax, both raise the same amount of revenue, but VAT is more subtle and requires more bookkeeping. I'm a low income senior who favors small government and logical fairness in taxation; but mainly I hate the income tax for bookkeeping reasons. I support the so-called "fair tax" (HR25) because it eliminates all bookkeeping at my level, saving the American economy billions in annual compliance costs, and at the same time meeting the objection that a sales tax is otherwise regressive.

As an example of the destructiveness of the income tax, my daughter bought and remodeled a house last year in an effort to pay off a large credit card debt. As a low income family unsophisticated in the ways of the highly progressive and complicated income tax, she will now end up having to go back into huge debt to pay the tax.
