Subject: Tax Reform

Comment: I am an Enrolled Agent in business for 25 years. I have prepared tax returns for over 30 years. The current tax system is just plain wrong. There have been so many add-ons and changes over the years that I even make errors, even though I am considered an expert in taxation. I could spend days trying to explain my reasoning. If the citizens even had a perception that the system was fair, I know that the tax receipts would be larger. You would not beleive the tax business that I turn away once I learn that a person is cheating. The cash economy in this country is staggering. It will be interesting to see if you have the courage to do the right thing, and fix the tax system. I really do not think you will. The political establishment will not let go of the many welfare and social tidbits that are in the code. The earned income credit being the biggest. If I were able, I would turn away any potential customer receiving this welfare. To receive three, four, or five thousand dollars in refunds when only paying in a few hundred is the most ridiculous item in the system. We have to realize that the folks receiving all this money constitute a large voting block. Its just wrong to take my taxes and give it to people who did not earn it. I am afraid you will not be sucessful in your efforts. Thanks
