Subject: Mortgage Interest Tax Deduction

Comment: Please do everything in your power to keep mortgage interest tax-deductible. As a homeowner and as a REALTOR, I see the effects as rising home prices (particularly in urban areas) demand more and more of a family's budget. The current tax advantages of homeownership keep these escalating prices from becoming completely unaffordable to the average American. If this deduction is eliminated, homes would become unaffordable for many, foreclosures rates would rise rapidly, and the related benefits to the economy of homeownership (sales of durable goods, construction jobs, etc.) would cause the US economy to sink to depression-like condition. I urge the Congress, the Senate and President Bush not to tamper with the current mortgage interest tax deduction. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" ! Sincerely, Julia E. Porowski
