Comment: Natural Resource Tax

I propose a natural resource tax. This would be a tax on the use of most natural resources such as fossil fuels, timber and minerals. This would increase the cost of using these resources and by doing so make many regulations unnecessary. Cost of gas would be higher so car makers would make more fuel efficient vehicles without the need for fleet fuel economy rules. Public transportation would become more popular and roads would become less crowded. Alternative fuel sources would be more cost-effective. We would become less dependent on foreign oil. We would be more environmentally friendly. For the record I drive an SUV and am an avid boater so this would hit my pocket hard. This is not a way to get someone else to pay.
