PRESS RELEASE

Donald C. Smaltz, Independent Counsel In Re Espy, today announced:

A federal jury in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia today found defendants John J. Hemmingson and Gary A. Black not guilty of the one count of conspiracy to defraud the Federal Election Commission and the two counts of causing false statements to the FEC that were charged in the indictment.

    Mr. Smaltz stated:

"I am, of course, disappointed in the jury's verdict, which found the defendants not guilty of the three offenses with which they were charged. However, in our system of justice, that ends the matter and we now move on to other aspects of our investigation."
