One of the latest alliances between business and government is the Business Anti-Smuggling Coalition,
which started last August in San Diego and is spreading to other ports. Led by Mattel, Inc., in cooperation
with the Customs Service, the Coalition is stopping drug smugglers from using shipments of toys and other
goods from overseas. It is purely voluntary, but Mattel executives are having no problem recruiting dozens
of other patriotic business leaders to join the alliance.
