National Partnership for Reinventing Government

The Possibilities...

Imagine a community where “citizen-customers” can have access to the government services they want-when, where, and how they want them. In person, over the telephone, by E-mail, or Internet. Or through the mail or after working hours. All hassle-free.

Under the leadership of Vice President Gore's National Partnership for Reinventing Government, federal agencies asked customers want they want. They listened - and continue to listen - to customer comments and complaints about government products and services people care about. The result is that Hassle-Free Communities deliver government services people want.

Partnerships Make it Happen

The key to building a successful Hassle-Free Community is creating partnerships between federal, state, and local government agencies; local businesses and industry; educational institutions, service organizations, and community groups; and our customers. Each Hassle-Free Community partnership focuses on the needs and services that are unique to that community. Think about the possibilities. It could be:

  • A one-stop service center for small or developing businesses. It provides help with Social Security requirements; local, state and federal tax issues; business licenses; and start-up loans.
  • A “Hassle-Free Mobile” outside a senior citizen center. On-board counselors help with Medicare and Medicaid issues, veterans' benefits, and tax forms. The next day, the mobile unit visits a college campus to provide information and assistance on student financial aid, employment opportunities, and health issues. On any given day, the "Hassle-Free Mobile" will travel to shopping malls, community centers, veterans' hospitals and other places, delivering government services to the people.
  • A telephone locator system that enables customers to search for information from all levels of government by topic, such as health care, housing, or employment. A map in buses and subways marks the location of community service centers and identifies the nearest transit stop.
  • A local post office or motor vehicle office where customers can apply for a passport. An outdoor sports store with a booth where hikers, campers, hunters, and fishermen can purchase maps, permits, and licenses for state and federal lands.

You can bring all of these hassle-free services and more to your community. Think about the possibilities...
