NATIONAL GAMBLING IMPACT STUDY COMMISSION

MR ROSENDO CALDERO

CHAIRPERSON JAMES: Rosendo Caldero?

MR. CALDERO: (Through translator.) Hello, everybody. My name is Rosendo Caldero and I work for the Hollywood Park Casino as a food service worker for four years. That's in the city of Englewood, California. And we have as our union Local 11 that helps us to defend our rights when it's necessary. I have the following benefits with the casino.

The principal way that I have to support my family. It's the way that I've been able to provide housing and education for my family and private schools that are very prestigious. For example the San Juan School in Englewood, catholic school, all of my children went to that school. Their names are Jose, Norma, Eduardo, and Andrasito (ph).

And thanks to Hollywood Park Casino I have a job five days a week and my children can continue studying in very prestigious schools. For example, my son, Eduardo, goes to USC in Los Angeles. And my son, Jose, goes to Boston University in the city of Boston. And for my other children who haven't yet gone to the university, we have faith that we'll continue to have good jobs so that we can continue to send them to school. We'd like to give them the best education for their future and for that of the community.

And in that way they'll become tomorrow's leaders. And then that way we'll be able to keep our children out of gangs.

Thank you.

CHAIRPERSON JAMES: Thank you.
