Maine State Drought Programs Program Title: Drought Plan Activation Function: Monitoring and Prediction, Planning Program Assistance or Functional Assistance: In order for the Governor to exercise his emergency powers, he must be informed of the water supply situation in the state. Drought Task Force members monitor the supply of water each month to determine availability. The U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Marine Geological Survey produces a report titled "Current Water Resources Conditions in Maine" monthly. Data collected by the USGS and that provided by members of the River Flow Advisory Committee is the basis of this report. The USDA, cooperating with Maine Dept. of Ag., collects crop data on a county basis. The Board recognizes the need to assist farmers in reducing risks by adoption of irrigation. A team of agencies will, if requested, assist farmers in determining how irrigation can be implemented on their farm.
