COALITION
PROVISIONAL AUTHORITY
South-Central Region
Sunday, October 26, 2003
distributions made to babil province
for area projects
Al Hilla, Babil
Province. The Coalition Provisional Authority South-Central today provided
more than $830,000 (1.58 billion Iraqi Dinars *) in community projects. The
projects will employ local people from Babil Province.
The projects will
repave roads in Hilla, Haidaria, and the road leading to the landfill. The
money will purchase computers for all 34 police substations in Babil Province,
as well as training on how to use the computers. The money will also purchase
irrigation pumps for Mahawil and the Babil Pump Station, and it will also
deconstruct bombed Fedayeen buildings.
CPA believes a
good educational system is essential as Iraq progresses toward self-government.
Today’s funds also include $36,600 (6.95 million Iraqi Dinars *) for Al Takadum
Primary School. During the summer, CPA also gave $520,000 (9.88 billion Iraqi
Dinars *) to 1040 schools in Babil Province – each school received $500 (950,000
Iraqi Dinars *). Repairing and improving schools creates a better learning
environment for children and increases opportunities for their futures as they
learn in a free Iraq.
Assisting the
people in Babil Province is an important goal for the Coalition Provisional
Authority. It is part of a larger initiative to help Iraqis as they move
forward toward democracy. CPA South-Central will announce other projects in the
coming weeks.
* Assuming $1 equal 1,900 Iraqi Dinars.
