Mr. David Medine
Bureau of Consumer Protection
Federal Trade Commission
601 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20580

Dear Mr. Medine:

It is with great interest that I submit to you my nomination to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Advisory Committee on Online Access and Security. Enclosed is my biography for your review.

As founder and chief executive officer for HealthMagic, Inc., I believe I would contribute greatly to your goals of providing advice and recommendations to the Commission regarding implementation of certain fair information practices by domestic, commercial Web sites. I support your efforts to provide online consumers access to personal information collected and maintain adequate security for that information.

HealthMagic, Inc. is a health information technology company that develops information management tools. I founded HealthMagic on the premise that health care information should be "consumer-centric" rather than "enterprise-centric." The company addresses current consumer and industry health information demands by delivering Internet-based knowledge tools that connect consumers and healthcare professionals over a trusted and secure proprietary network.

We offer a variety of tools to businesses and consumers to promote online privacy, including:

HealthCompass: Allows consumers to develop and maintain a lifelong health record for themselves and their family members via the Internet. Consumers can selectively share and distribute their information with providers and family members on a case-by-case basis.

CareCompass: Serves home health care agencies through a Web-based Intranet application that integrates administrative, clinical, financial and decision-support applications. Helping manage this information enhances patient care through the use of personalized patient information and care plans, as well as on-line patient educational materials.

HealthTalk: This software ensures that all HealthMagic products support the safe and secure exchange of private healthcare information between various participants.

HealthVector Tool: HealthMagic’s proprietary software development tool that enables the tailoring of user and computer interactions based on the user’s profile. By gathering personal information such as age, gender and health interests, the HealthVectors Tool provides users with personalized health information.

HealthMagic, Inc.'s Technology Center is located in Columbia, SC. All software engineering and technology development for HealthMagic takes place at the Technology Center. Sales offices are located in South Carolina, Florida and New Mexico. Additional information will be sent under separate cover and can also be found on our Web site at www.healthmagic.com.

I believe my experience in promoting online privacy and protecting consumers would be invaluable in delivering solid and credible recommendations on this important issue. It is my strong hope that you will strongly consider my candidacy for nomination to the Advisory Committee.

Sincerely,
Calvin W. Wiese
