I would like to nominate myself for a position on the Advisory Committee on Online Access and Security. I am currently the Director of Development for Coremetrics, Inc. (http://www.coremetrics.com). Our company collects data about web site visitors, their browsing and purchasing, among other things. With this data we allow marketers and content managers to target groups dynamically for advertising or content based on user's online profiles. The type of data that we collect includes items purchased, name, address, phone, email... etc. Our business projections have our company managing one of the largest databases in the United States by the end of the next fiscal year. Our development team includes over 25 people dedicated to managing this data and leveraging it for our clients use.
I would like to represent the interests of both the web user and for companies that house data such as ours. It is a difficult task in today's age to only do good things with the amount and type of data that we collect. It is my hope that the industry to which I belong can regulate itself, maintaining the privacy of the individual, while at the same time delivering a valuable service to those that request it. To this end we are installing an opt out system where any user can choose differing levels of participation based upon their wishes.
My past work has been as an Intranet webmaster and DBA for Dell Corporation where I supplied real time data for customer support technicians. Previously I have been in the banking and Real Estate industries, where I served as an account technician for ATM transactions and as a sales agent.
I hope that my outlook and skills will be a valuable asset to the Committee, and that my current work will have some relevance for this timely and volatile subject.
