Advisory Committee on Online Access and Security—Nomination, P004807

Dear Mr. Secretary:

I am writing to ask that I be considered for appointment to the Commission's Advisory Committee on Online Access and Security, representing the Direct Marketing Association, whose members will be significantly affected by any rules and regulations regarding online marketing. The Direct Marketing Association is the largest trade association for businesses interested in interactive and database marketing, with nearly 4,600 member companies from the United States and 53 other nations.

I am familiar with the principles of fair information practices and the issues involved in online privacy protection. I have testified before Congress on privacy in cyberspace, and I have participated in workshops held by the Federal Trade Commission on this subject. I am integrally involved in the policy determinations of the DMA concerning its self-regulatory programs as well as the positions taken in response to legislation, hearings, and workshops. I am also involved with the DMA's activity in the states concerning privacy legislation and initiatives (online and off-line).

As the Senior Vice President for Government Affairs, I believe that I am an appropriate person to represent the interests of The DMA's members on the Advisory Committee.

Sincerely,
Jerry Cerasale
Senior Vice President
