Re: Advisory Committee on Online Access and Security – Nomination P004807

Dear Mr. Medine:

Please consider my appointment to the Advisory Committee on Online Access and Security. Through Internet business leadership roles, my additional position as a collegiate professor on the subject, and as a concerned consumer, I have developed an expertise and special interest in the issues surrounding fair information practices by domestic commercial Web sites.

My training and experience would complement the goals of this important Federal Trade Commission activity. Today, I lead the Internet and E-Commerce initiatives for Interval International, a leading worldwide travel services company and among Florida’s largest private employers. I also teach "Internet Business Strategy" as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami Graduate Business School (MBA/MS program). In addition to my own MBA in Marketing and Strategy, I have completed significant coursework towards an Executive Master of Technology Management from the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania. Previously, I worked as technical committee manager for ASTM, where I became very proficient in guiding the development of voluntary consensus standards for industry.

I have enclosed several documents to better introduce my abilities and credentials, including published articles I have written on the subject of consumer privacy. I believe that I could substantially contribute through unique expertise and coupled with my intense desire to see the Internet flourish as a mechanism fueled by fair business practices cultivated by the partnership of the private and public sectors.

I would welcome the opportunity to meet or speak regarding my interest. I appreciate your consideration, and thank you for your initiatives in this critical area.

Respectfully yours,

William J. Brown II
Director of E-Commerce
Interval International

Adjunct Professor
University of Miami
