OSHA LAUNCHES
WEB PAGE TO ASSIST SMALL BUSINESS; SITE PROVIDES WEALTH OF SAFETY
AND HEALTH INFORMATION
Promoting its
spirit of cooperation and partnership, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA) today launched a web site dedicated
to providing small businesses with assistance regarding the latest
safety and health information.
The web site,
which OSHA created in recognition of National Small Business Week,
is one of many ways the agency is addressing the needs of these
24 million employers who employ more than 50 percent of the nation's
private workforce. OSHA also offers a variety of services, events
and publications to help those employers who may not have access
to the Internet.
"We realize
the importance of small business to the nation's economic well-being
and the challenges these employers face," said OSHA Administrator
Charles N. Jeffress. "OSHA is committed to providing resources to
help them identify hazards and establish safety and health programs
that will reduce workplace injuries and illnesses."
Small businesses
generate more than half of the nation's gross domestic product and
create most of the new jobs in the U.S., according to the Small
Business Administration.

On March 4,
OSHA held its first small business forum entitled "OSHA and Small
Business: New Ways of Working." This event gave smaller employers
the opportunity to speak with OSHA experts and staff about various
topics, including small business programs, OSHA standards, compliance
and training and education. The agency plans to conduct similar
forums across the country. A schedule of upcoming forums will be
located on the new web site.
The new small
business web site is accessible from the agency's homepage at http://www.osha.gov.
