NOAA Weather Radio: A Lifesaver
for the Cost of a Pair of Shoes

May 10, 1999--The tornadoes that struck Oklahoma and Kansas were devastating, but the loss of life could have been greater. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Weather Service issued timely warnings which helped residents take cover. In addition, NOAA Weather Radio was there to broadcast the warnings of severe conditions. Vice President Al Gore has set a goal to make NOAA Weather Radio receivers as common as smoke detectors in American homes.

Asthma Management Website
Physicians who want to provide the most up-to-date diagnostic and treatment methods for their asthma patients can now find, on one online site, virtually all the scientific literature on chronic asthma that has ever been published. The web site was launched in 1998 by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health.

They are among the thousands of topics on FREE--Federal Resources for Educational Excellence--one of the most popular federal websites for teaching and learning resources. About 35 agencies developed resources for FREE.
